New Accord for 2006

The debut of an enhanced Accord range at Frankfurt also marks the first application in Europe of Honda’s ADAS (Advanced Driving Assist Systems) technologies, a suite of systems aimed at making the driving experience more relaxing and above all safer.

The first of these, the Lane Keeping Assist System (LKAS), employs a camera to recognise any deviations from the lane that the vehicle is travelling in and then applies appropriate input to the EPS (Electric Power Steering) to help keep the car within its lane – in combination with the driver’s input.

Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC)  similarly reduces the burden of motorway (or similar road) driving by automatically regulating both the speed of the car and its distance to the vehicle in front, using millimetre-wave radar and speed and yaw rate sensors.

LKAS is available as an option on the 2.4 Executive automatic transmission, right-hand-drive model, while ACC is available as an option on the 2.4 Executive manual transmission (LHD) and automatic transmission (both LHD and RHD) models.

Accord can also be specified with a voice recognition satellite navigation system with RDS (Radio Data System) for the first time, helping the driver to avoid traffic congestion.

Honda’s award-winning D-segment contender also receives a facelift for 2006 with a restyled front end and new alloy wheels for both Saloon and Tourer together with a new rear bumper and lights on the Saloon. These changes are complemented by subtle revisions to the interior including a new instrument panel.

Enhanced driveability on 2.0 litre i-VTEC models is provided by a DBW (drive-by-wire) system enabling both the maximum power and torque to be attained at 500rpm lower engine speed than before.  Accords equipped with this engine are also safer than ever before thanks to addition of VSA (vehicle stability assist), Honda’s own 4-channel stability system designed to assist the driver in maintaining control during cornering, acceleration and sudden manoeuvres, by applying brake force to the right or left hand wheels as necessary and managing the throttle and ignition systems.
