Ten out of ten down in Australia
Eli Evans and Glen Weston continue to re-write the record books – the pair won the latest round of the Australian Rally Championship in their seemingly invincible Honda Jazz G2 to claim their tenth consecutive victory at the International Rally of Queensland.
Though Evans led from the second special stage the Renault Clio of Scott Pender pushed him hard throughout. The rivalry was red hot between the pair all weekend, Evans taking a second or two off Pedder, then Pedder hitting back. While Evans held a lead of more than 20 seconds overnight the pace was unrelenting throughout Sunday’s stages.
“I don’t know why I do these rallies, it’s so stressful!” exclaimed a relieved and exhausted Evans at the event finish. “I knew I had to press on and if we took it easy even for a split second Scott could have gotten ahead.”
Adding to Honda’s delight Mark Pedder finished third to make it two Jazz rally crews on the podium.
The Australian Rally Championship now takes an eight week break in the lead up to the next Round at Rally Australia, held in New South Wales over the weekend of
14-15 September where Evans and Honda will be aiming to make it 11 wins on the bounce.
